The Outbrain JS

Our JavaScript is lightweight and loads asynchronously, and will never delay page loading.

For most publishers, implementing the Outbrain code involves one simple step. Place the code your launch specialist provides in the area of your site where you would like our widget to appear. Here is a typical example of our code:

<div class="OUTBRAIN" data-src="DROP_PERMALINK_HERE" data-widget-id="WIDGET_ID"></div>
<script type="text/javascript" async="async" src="https://widgets.outbrain.com/outbrain.js"></script>

Your launch specialist will provide you with the TEMPLATE and WIDGET_ID values specific to your implementation.

Crawling

For optimal performance, please ensure that your pages have metadata (open graph or canonical tags) for the article title, description, image, and date.

Where to Install the Outbrain JS

If you have a test environment …

Grant your launch specialist access to the test environment. If needed, they can provide you with our office IP addresses.

If not, don’t worry…

We have two options for installing the widget without a test environment.

  1. We can hide the Outbrain widget so that you can launch the code directly in production. We have a shareable draft environment where the widget(s) will be visible after you add a parameter to the end of the URL. You can see it in action here:
  2. http://widgets.outbrain.com/external/demos/draft-demo.html

  3. You can launch the code visibly on one low-traffic page.

Testing and Styling

Once you’ve installed the Outbrain code we can begin testing and styling. This process typically takes 3-5 business days. Your launch specialist will let you know when the widget is ready for your review.

Going Live

Once Outbrain has set up the widget and validated everything in testing, you can launch the Outbrain widget. Please let your launch specialist know the expected date and time of launch so they can complete a review of your site post launch.
